Stock screener: meaning, example and why it matters
A tool that filters a large list of stocks (or crypto) by conditions such as price versus moving averages, RSI or returns, so you can shortlist candidates to research. A screener result is a starting point, not a buy or sell signal.
Worked example
A filter such as P/E below 20 and market cap above ₹5,000 crore returns only stocks that meet both. If 500 stocks are scanned and 40 pass, the screener has narrowed the list to 40 without judging any of them.
Illustrative numbers for explanation only. They are not market data, a forecast or a suggestion.
Why it matters
A screener turns a long list into a short one by rules you set, which saves time but depends on the data and rules used.
