Frequently asked questions

Is my portfolio uploaded anywhere?

No. Files are read inside your browser and saved only in this browser's local storage. The only thing sent to our server is a list of stock symbols, to look up prices. Quantities and the prices you paid are never sent.

Which files can I import?

Zerodha Console holdings CSV, Groww holdings CSV, a Zerodha tradebook CSV, or our simple template (symbol, date, type, quantity, price). Rows that cannot be read are listed with the reason instead of being dropped silently.

Why does XIRR say it needs dated trades?

XIRR needs the date of every buy and sell. A holdings file only has quantity and average price, so a return rate over time cannot be worked out without guessing dates, and we do not guess. Import a tradebook or add dated trades to see it.

How is XIRR calculated?

It is the annualised rate that makes all your dated cash flows (buys as outflows, sells as inflows, and today's value of what you still hold as a final inflow) add up to zero, using actual days over 365, as spreadsheet XIRR does. For periods under a year the annualised figure can look extreme.

Where do the prices come from, and how fresh are they?

From a public market-data source, fetched when you open the page or press Refresh. They can be delayed and can fail for some stocks. You can always type your own price in the Price column, and yours takes priority.

Does this tell me what to buy or sell?

No. It shows numbers from your own data. For a view on a holding that takes your goal into account, use Samjho Bhai, our portfolio review tool, and read its disclaimer.
