How the ppf calculator works
This estimate assumes one deposit at the start of each financial year, interest compounded yearly at a constant rate, and the yearly deposit limit of ₹1,50,000 (anything above it is ignored). Value = D × [((1 + r)n − 1) ÷ r] × (1 + r).
Real PPF interest is worked out monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month and credited yearly, and the rate changes every quarter, so the actual figure can differ. A PPF account matures after 15 years.
Worked example
Depositing ₹1,50,000 every year for 15 years at 7.1% means ₹22,50,000 deposited in all. The estimated value at the end is ₹40,68,209, of which ₹18,18,209 is interest. PPF interest is currently tax-free under the scheme's rules.
